Benchmark indices have traded volatile ahead of the US Federal Reserve meeting due today as investors worry on interest rate hike by federal reserve which may pump out the liquidity from emerging markets but the sentiments were somewhat supportive today after the BOJ overhauled its policy framework and recommitted itself to more policy easing in the coming weeks. Nifty ended the session to close flat at 8777.15 i.e. 1.25 points higher. Infratel, Eicher Motors and Hindalco were the top gainers of the day while Bank of Baroda, Power grid, Ambuja Cement were the top losers of the day.
Global Markets Update:
- Volkswagen faces 8.2 billion Euros ($9.14 billion) in damage claims from investors over its emissions scandal in the legal district where the carmaker is based.
- Japanese stocks rose nearly 2 percent after the BOJ’s overhauled its monetary policy, potentially easing pressure on banks and insurers. Investors also hoped the BOJ’s revamped plan would see it buying a greater variety of exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
